On 6/28/06 the two Daves (David Honigstock and Dave Liberts) hiked the Eagle Creek State Park. The park is in the Columbia Gorge about 60 miles northeast of the Beaverton/Tigard area. It's a narrow stretch of trail that follows the Eagle Creek and ends in the Hatfield Wilderness Area. The distance from the parking lot to the beginning of the wilderness area is approximately 5 miles. Along the way, we observed the beautiful creek with its many rapids and waterfalls and crossed over 2 or 3 bridges as we wound our way up the ravine to the end. At times, the trail became very narrow with a vertical cliff on one side and a shear precipice to the creek on the other. But, it was not a difficult hike as the trail was never very steep, ascending gradually most of the time. The total trip lasted 4 1/2 hours with liberal stops for picture taking, minor squabbles, and lunch.
Here we are starting out. That's my new Camelback backpack.
David is a veteran hiker.
First let's look at some rapids. Don't forget to click on any picture to enlarge it.
Now, some waterfalls.
And, the narrow portion of the trail. Note handrail on left.
Here are some easier parts of the path.
And, bridges.
When we returned to the car we were plenty tired. I think we had a great time and look forward to returning.
